In year 2021, pandemic happened and so it was a good opportunity for NFTs to shine. The interest in non-fungible tokens (NFTs) increased dramatically, with many celebrities and artists releasing their own series of virtual work.
The influx of interest has caused the cost of NFTs to skyrockets, with 2021 becoming a record-setting year in terms of sale prices.
The unique selling point of NFTs is that it tokenizes digital art, giving the owner a sellable certificate, which confirms the asset as original.

1. Bored Ape Yacht Club
With 10,000 algorithmically generated NFTs launched in April. Its fame arise for the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection, one of the owners’ is Jimmy Fallon from The Tonight Show host. The striped T-shirt Ape was sold for $145,000 on November 8, where he has 50 million followers. This increased the hype and sales that creates awareness to his followers. The pride of the purchase has made Jimmy change his Twitter’s profile picture to match his ‘upgraded status’ in the NFTs industry.

2. Louis Vuitton Video Game
Luxury brands are coming up with their exclusivity and brand recognition to enter into the NFT world as a natural fit for the industry. So Louis Vuitton made a grand opening into the unique NFTs world. They developed an entire video game, called Louis: The Game, where players can complete challenges to find hidden NFTs. Some of the hidden NFTs include 10 artworks by Beeple, who purchased $69million artwork.

The Blockchain-based play-to-earn (P2E) models has created a big waves to make gamers dream come true by making gamers real money. This concept increased in popularity over the past year especially in developing countries such as the Philippines. To play money and earn game at the same time is a win-win situation that attracted many gamers to explore the platform. Now 14 years later the creators took the video off and put it on blockchain. This video was sold for $760,000 at an auction which the parents says will go to funding the two young boy’s university costs.

Here’s another meme that surfaced into the NFT space that reflects to internet culture. Bad Luck Brain (real name Kyle Craven) has been made fun online since 2012. With all the bad luck and trauma he had in the past, he sold his iconic yearbook photo for a massive $36,000 in March 2021.



10. Pet Rocks
This is by far the biggest surprise on NFT platform, the EtherRocks. They are just JPEGs of cartoon rocks, which are beight bought and sold as NFTs for million of dollars! Currently the cheapest of the 100 EtherRocks released is valued around $1.5m. The unbelievable normal looking pet rocks was sold for $2.2m in September 2021.
